Chairwoman of Greece-Lithuania Parliamentary Friendship Group Anna Karamanli meets with Ambassador of Lithuania
A courtesy meeting took place today at the Parliament between the new Ambassador of Lithuania Lina Skerstonaitè and the Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Anna Karamanli.
The Chairwoman of the Friendship Group, upon congratulating the Ambassador for assuming her duties, referred to the recent, high-level contacts between Greece and Lithuania, as a springboard for expanding the filed of bilateral cooperation, especially since there has been more activity in the last two years.
Among other things, Mrs Karamali thanked the Lithuanian official for her country's support to the Greek candidacies in the context of international cooperation, especially in light of the current geopolitical situation, which requires our countries to remain committed to the common European principles and values in the framework of respect for International Law. Furthermore, she expressed the Greek side's satisfaction with Lithuania's contribution in protecting the Greek borders, by reinforcing Frontex and recognised the need to strengthen cooperation in this field, since, as the Greek MP emphasised, the Greek borders are European borders.
Mrs Karamanli also characterised as extremely important Lithuania's support for the European and Euroatlantic path of the Western Balkans, praising the country's alignment with the international community's stance on the Cyprus issue.
Mrs Lina Skerstonaitè assured of her intention to help as much as possible in further supporting the dynamics that are developing between the two countries, in every field with ample margin in this direction, in spite of the difficult conditions created by the war in the region and noted that among her goals is to increase contacts at high government level.
