Greek MPs participate in PACE Spring Session
The Members of the Hellenic Parliament delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly οf the Council of Europe (PACE) Theodoros Roussopoulos, Georgios Katrougalos, Dimitrios Kairidis, Fotini Pipili, Nina Kasimati, Anastasios Chatzivasileiou and Alexandros Triantafyllidis, will be traveling to Strasbourg in order to participate in the 2022 PACE Spring Session. The other members of the delegation, Dora Bakoyannis (Head of delegation), Evripidis Stylianidis, George Papandreou, Sokratis Famellos, Liana Kanelli, Fotini Bakadima and Kyriakos Velopoulos, will participate remotely.
In the framework of the Session, a general policy debate on the consequences of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine will take place, also elaborating upon a call for an urgent debate on ensuiring accountability for serious violations of international humanitarian law.
Mr Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic, will address the Assembly Wednesday noon and answer members’ questions.
Reports will be discussed on strengthening the Council of Europe-EU strategic partnership, on securing and promoting genuine democracy in Europe and on the best use of confiscated criminal assets.
Moreover, the agenda includes reports on combating child pornography, deinstitutionalisation of people with disabilities, prevention of excessive and unjustified police violence, tackling discrimination based on social origin and on the honouring of obligations and commitments by Georgia.
Mrs Dunja Mijatović, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, will present her annual activity report for 2021 and answer to questions. Finally, Mrs Marija Pejčinović Burić, Council of Europe Secretary General, will also answer questions from Members of the Assembly.
