Global Parliamentary Conference on Migration in Istanbul

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey jointly host the Global Parliamentary Conference on Migration in Istanbul, 20-21 June 2022, to discuss the adoption and implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) and the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR), adopted in 2018 by the United Nations General Assembly.

The Hellenic Parliament will be represented to the Global Parliamentary Conference with the theme “Parliaments and the Global Compacts on Migration and Refugees: How to Bring About Stronger International Cooperation and National Implementation”  by MP  Ioannis Kefalogiannis.

Topics to be discussed are the following:

- Global Compacts: Targets, commitments, progress and setbacks in implementation.

- Permanent solutions to involuntary migration: Prevention of migration in the countries of origin.

- Addressing irregular migration, including by border management and combating transnational crime.

- Responsibility and fair burden-sharing in the field of migration.

- Adjusting the lives of migrants and refugees: Human dignity, social inclusion and cohesion.

- Experience of Turkey as the country hosting the highest number of migrants in the world.
