Hellenic Parliament honours International Women's Day in the presence of the President of the Republic


International Women's Day was honoured by the Hellenic Parliament at a joint meeting of the Equality, Youth and Human Rights Committee and the Social Affairs Committee on the theme "A day dedicated to the struggles to establish the rights of women."
The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou attended the meeting and delivered a welcome address, while the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis, the Minister of Education Niki Kerameos, the Alternate Minister of Interior Stelios Petsas, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Maria Syreggela, and representatives from all parliamentary groups of the Hellenic Parliament also addressed the meeting.
All speakers referred to the dramatic situation for the people of Ukraine and in particular the efforts of women to protect their families in the horror of war.
The representatives of the parliamentary groups that addressed the meeting were: Irini Agathopoulou from SYRIZA, Nadia Giannakopoulou from Movement for Change (KINAL), Liana Kanelli from the Communist Party of Greece, Maria Athanasiou from Greek Solution and Maria Apatzidi from DiEM25. The speakers focused on modern day problems faced by women and the inequalities that still prevail.
