Messrs Plakiotakis and Nikolakopoulos meet with delegation of Socialist Republic of Vietnam

The 1st Vice-President Ioannis Plakiotakis and the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justive Andreas Nikolakopoulos met today with an 8-member parliamentary delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, headed by the Chair of the Committee on Justice Mai Thi Phuong Hoa.
During the meeting the two sides confirmed the excellent level or relations of friendship and cooperation between Greece and Vietnam. During his greeting, the 1st Vice-President Ioannis Plakiotakis said that Greece had upgraded its interest in the Indo-Pacific in recent years and recognises that role that Vietnam plays as a factor for peace and stability in SE Asia. Despite the geographical distance, Greece and Vietnam have repeatedly stressed their strong support for the full adherence to the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and their commitment to maritime security and freedom of navigation. Furthermor, Mr Plakiotakis noted the significant room for improving the volume of bilateral trade, especially followint the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, while he also referred to the further strengthening of cooperation between the Parliaments of the two States through the Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
For his part, Mr Nikolakopolos, answering the relevant questions posed by the Vietnamese delegation, analysed the structure of the Justice system in Greece, informed the delegation about the work of the Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice and mentioned the legislative initiatives and measures that the Greek State has taken in the last four years regarding the prevention of and crackdown on crimes linked to human trafficking, gender-based violence, sexual abuse.
In turn, Mrs Mai Thi Phuong Hoa warmly thanked Messrs Plakiotakis and Nikolakopoulos for the reception, the meeting and the detailed briefing in Parliament, spoke about aspects of bilateral economic cooperation, such as trade, shipping, tourism, infrastructures, renewable energy sources, while she focused on issues relating to the organised crime of human trafficking, requesting the continuation of cooperation between the two competent Committees on these issues.
