Meeting of Greece–Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group with Ambassador of Republic of Armenia to Athens

Within the framework of the continuous strengthening of bilateral parliamentary relations and the further deepening of cooperation, the Chair of the Greece–Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr Vasileios Economou, together with the Group's members, Mr Ioannis Tragakis, Mr Michail Livanos and Mr Georgios Papailiou, met at the Hellenic Parliament with the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Athens, Mr Tigran Mkrtchyan.
The members of the Friendship Group reaffirmed Greece's longstanding support for Armenia and stressed that relations between the two countries are of strategic importance, being founded on shared historical experiences, solidarity and commitment to the principles of international law. The Members of Parliament referred to the historical ties between the two peoples, the mutual recognition of the genocides and the longstanding cooperation between the two states in international organisations. They noted that Greece will continue to support Armenia's European path and every effort aimed at strengthening stability, security and cooperation in the wider region.
During their interventions, particular emphasis was placed on the need to further strengthen parliamentary diplomacy through more frequent exchanges of visits and closer cooperation between the respective Friendship Groups. At the same time, the contribution of the Armenian community in Greece was highlighted, as it constitutes an integral and dynamic part of Greek society and serves as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
