Meeting of Political Affairs and Democracy Commitee of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) in Chania and official visit of PACE President in Athens

Following an invitation by the Hellenic Parliament, the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will convene in Chania on 16 - 17 May 2022. The agenda will include debates and consideration of reports. Among the issues will be: "The need for renewed, effective and inclusive multilateralism" (rapporteur: Dora Bakoyannis), "Recent challenges to security in Europe: what role for the Council of Europe?", "Supporting a European perspective for the Western Balkans" (rapporteur: George Papandreou), "Justice and security for women in peace reconciliation".

From the Greek side, MPs-Committee members Georgios Katrougalos and George Papandreou will participate in the meeting, while MPs-members of the Greek delegation to PACE Evripidis Stylianidis, Dimitris Kairidis, Theodoros Rousopoulos, Nina Kasimati and Fotini Pipili will follow the proceedings. Among the guest speakers will be former MP-member of the Greek delegation Evangelos Venizelos

 Present in the meeting will be PACE President Tiny Kox, as well as the Secretary General Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis.

Once the meeting concludes, Mr Kox is expected in Athens where he will conduct an official visit on 18 May and will meet with the President of the Parliament Constantine Tassoulas, the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the Greek delegation to PACE as well as with the Chairpersons or representatives of the Parliamentary Groups.
