Fact-finding visit to Greece by ad hoc Sub-Committee of Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE)
The ad hoc Sub-Committee of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of PACE will carry out a visit in Athens and Lesvos from 10 to 12 May 2021. The Head of the six-member delegation of MPs is Pierre-Alain Fridez (Switzerland, Socialist party). Two Greek MPs participate in the delegation, Tasos Chatzivasileiou (New Democracy – Serres constituency) and Sokratis Famellos (SYRIZA – 2nd constituency of Thessaloniki).
During their stay in Athens, the MPs will meet with a cross-party delegation from the Hellenic Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice, in particular with MPs Maximos Charakopoulos (Chair, New Democracy), Georgios Katrougalos (SYRIZA), Georgios Kaminis (Movement for Change), Liana Kanelli (Communist Party of Greece), Konstantinos Chitas (Greek Solution) and Foteini Bakadima (DiEM25).
They will also be meeting with the Ministers of a) Migration and Asylum, b) Citizen Protection and c) Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, as well as with Independent Authorities, the UNHCR and NGOs. The delegation will go to Lesvos, where it will visit the Mavrovouni Reception and Identification Centre and it will meet with local authorities.
