On initiative of Mr Plakiotakis, first meeting of Chairpersons of European Affairs Committees of Parliaments of Mediterranean EU Member States

The establishment of the meeting of the Chairpersons of the European Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of the Mediterranean Member States of the EU was decided by the Chairpersons of these Committees, who participated in the first meeting held today in Agios Nikolaos, on the initiative of the 1st Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament and Chairperson of the European Affairs Committee Mr Ioannis Plakiotakis.
Participants from Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Portugal and Slovenia agreed that the possibility of regular consultations between countries with common issues and characteristics provides an opportunity to promote social positions in European parliamentary fora with greater success.
Today's meeting discussed enlargement policy, with rapporteur Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission; the crisis in the Middle East, with rapporteur Helene Le Gal, responsible for the Middle East at the European External Action Service; and the challenges of migration, with rapporteur Notis Mitarakis, former Minister of Migration Policy.
