European Twinning Programme of Greek and Armenian Parliament concluded successfully

The European Twinning project of Greece-Armenia Parliaments titled "Strengthening the capacity of the National Assembly of Armenia to further support CEPA oversight and implementation" was successfully completed and celebrated with a public event that took place in Yerevan, Armenia, on November 29; the project was approved in 2020 and implemented by the Hellenic Parliament European Programme Implementation Service (E.P.I.S).
This two-year project, funded exclusively by the European Commission, with the participation of the Italian Parliament as a partner, aimed to support the National Assembly of Armenia in the implementation and monitoring of reforms under the Comprehensive Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the EU and Armenia, as well as the further deepening of democracy through the strengthening of parliamentary processes. The agreement provides for EU-Armenia cooperation in a wide range of policy areas, with a focus on adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law.
Having completed similar projects with other Parliaments, the undertaking and successful completion of this specific project with the National Assembly of Armenia - moreover taking into account the challenges of the period - confirms the Hellenic Parliament’s great experience in inter-parliamentary cooperation programmes. It is noteworthy that during its evaluation by the European Commission, the Hellenic Parliament candidacy for participation in the programme almost hit the absolute maximum score among co-candidate Parliaments.

During the event, the project implementation team -composed by Eleni Kanellopoulou (Project Leader), Dr. Vasilios Svolopoulos (Deputy Project Leader), Nektarios Kyriakou (Resident Twinning Advisor), Mari Manukyan (Project Leader – Parliament of Armenia), Giovanni Rizzoni (Junior Project Leader – Italian House of Representatives) and Marta Sandoyan (Component 1 Leader - Parliament of Armenia)- presented the project components’ results.
