Exhibitions

As of 1994 the Parliament has been making a systematic effort to come closer to the citizens and mostly the youth by organizing exhibitions on the occasion of important historical events or to pay tribute to distinguished personalities of Hellenism. By means of such events, the Parliament actually contributes to helping citizens get a more profound knowledge of history and adopt a more critical stance towards the past and the present.

Furthermore, elementary, junior and senior high school students can visit the Parliament on weekdays (see section on School Visits)

Moreover, groups of visitors, such as members of associations, senior citizen clubs etc. may schedule a visit by calling the Parliament (210 3692429 and 210 3692106).

“ Democracy was never righteously abolished : 40 years since the restoration of Democracy

The Library of the Hellenic Parliament in cooperation with the The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy presents, in the Eleftherios Venizelos Room and the Peristylion of the Megaron of the Hellenic Parliament,  the exhibition titled “ Democracy was never righteously  abolished : 40 years since the restoration of Democracy”.
The exhibition was inaugurated on the 24th of July 2014 by the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr Karolos Papoulias, with the presence of the political and military leadership of the country and representatives of Resistance Contra-dictatorship / Antidictatorial Organizations.
Through the formal constitutional and legal documents, the front pages of newspapers and magazines, the photographic and cinematographic evidence of the era, the original documents and political exhibits, such as posters, party tracts, ballots of the national elections of 1974 and of the referendum for the regime, an attempt is made to present the affairs of the first year following the Cyprus tragedy and the fall of dictatorship on the 24th of July 1974.

This period of time, full of uncertainty and dangers, but also of big national and political challenges, has been viewed by the whole of the political world with special attention and interest, resulting to the establishment, with the Constitution of 1975, of the 3rd Hellenic Republic, the longest period of peace in the history of the Modern Greek state.

In the Peristylion, the intellectual and cultural production of the period is exhibited, in which the massive concerts, innovative theatrical performances, art exhibitions, rich cinema production and publishing boom hold an important place and create the spirit of freedom and enthusiasm, which prevailed in the field of intellectual creation of the era.

The exhibition will be open to the public through guided tours starting September 2014.
