Hellenic Parliament represented at 6th edition of Reykjavík Global Forum - Women Leaders

"The recognition of equal opportunities for women ensures a more representative participation of all members of the populations, thus achieving greater social cohesion and - overall - a better and more just society".

The above was stressed by Dr Sevasti (Sevi) Voloudaki, Ambassador of Greece to the Women Political Leaders (WPL) network, during its annual Global Forum which is taking place in Reykjavik, Iceland, from 13 to 14 November 2023.

Dr Voloudaki expressed her satisfaction as a member of the WPL community, noting the significant progress regarding women's participation in public life: "in spite of the fact that development has been slow and uneven".

She also stressed that Gender Equality is a priority for the Greek state, something that is confirmed by the fact that Greece has moved up three places since 2020 and by 9,4 points since 2010 in the "Gender Equality Index" of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).

Dr Voloudaki described in detail the government agencies responsible for promoting gender equality in Greece: 1) The Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, 2) The Research Centre for Gender Equality (KETHI), 3) The National Council for Gender Equality and 4) The activities of the Special Permanent Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights of the Hellenic Parliament.

"Preventing a backtracking regarding the achievements of women and consolidating and expanding their rights must be on the policy agenda of every State committed to the Rule of Law", concluded Greece's Ambassador to the WPL.
