Meeting of Greece-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Groups via teleconference
The Chairwoman of the Greece-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group Katerina Papakosta-Palioura and the Deputy Chair Michalis Katrinis met for the first time via teleconference with the members of the relevant Group of the Swedish Parliament, chaired by Lars Mejern Larsson.
The teleconference was also attended by the Ambassador of Greece in Stockholm Andreas Fryganas, the Secretary of the Embassy of Sweden in Athens Pär Skånberg and representatives of the Greek diaspora in Sweden.
The discussion focused on current affairs such as managing the pandemic and its financial impact, the migrant issue and the burden that the two countries are carrying, Greece as an entry point and Sweden as a destination.
Regarding bilateral economic and trade relations there was satisfaction for the fact that they have remained resilient during the pandemic, while there is wide room for further development. It was emphasised that there is a need to exchange know-how and to make common policies regarding digitalisation, fighting climate change and promoting renewable energy sources.
The Greek MPs also mentioned how significant the tourist industry’s recovery is for our country and urged their Swedish colleagues to trust our country as a safe tourist destination.
Summing up, Mr. Mejern Larsson informed his Greek colleagues about the upcoming events that will be organised by the Swedish Parliament to celebrate the 200 years since the Greek Revolution.
