Greek-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Groups hold online meeting

The Chairman of the Greece-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group Simos Kedikoglou, the Deputy Chair Thanasis Davakis and the Secretary Giorgos Papailiou met online with the relevant Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Russian State Duma chaired by Fedyaev Pavel Mihailovich.
The discussion began with the mutual recognition by both friendship groups that they are linked by long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation based on common spiritual, religious and cultural values as well as common historical experiences.
The discussion then focused on issues of international and regional interest, defence cooperation and the possibility of strengthening relations in the transport sector.
It was pointed out that our time calls for cooperation in tackling the pandemic, international terrorism-extremism and drug trafficking.
Emphasis was placed on restoring the Tourism sector, which was impacted by the pandemic and re-activating tourist flows and religious tourism between Greece and Russia, while it was stressed that Greece now recognises, for travel purposes, both the Russian vaccine certificates as well as the Russian vaccines.
It should be noted that special reference was made to the numerous events that are planned to take place in Russia honouring the celebration of the Greek Anniversary of the 200 years since the start of the struggle for independence.
Lastly, both sides expressed their commitment to expanding a constructive cooperation through further Friendship Group meetings in the near future, physical meetings if possible, as there is a specific agenda with an institutional framework on a plethora of areas of cooperation.
