Meeting of Bureau of Greece-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group with Ambassador of Moldova to Athens

"The relations between Greece and Moldova are in a state of dynamic development as the opening of the Greek Embassy in Chisinau is expected soon", stressed the Chairperson of the Friendship Group Vasileios Giogiakas during today's meeting with the Ambassador of Moldova to Athens Andrei Popov.

During the discussion, Mr Giogiakas noted that Greece supports unconditionally the territorial integrity, independence and national sovereignty of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders.

He also underlined the importance of the regional Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) as a dynamic platform for strengthening cooperation between the countries around the Black Sea and stressed that the Greek side looks forward to promoting further the BSEC agenda.

For his part, A. Popov referred to the unreserved Greek support in the European Council for granting Moldova EU candidate status.

A direct air link between Athens and Chisinau was also discussed, that could act as a "bridge" between the two countries, both in terms of tourism as well as for the business sector.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chair of the Greece-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group, Georgios Kotsos, who stressed the support for mutual candidacies in international regional organisations.
