Refugee and migration issue raised at meeting of Greece-Lebanon Parliamentary Friendship Group with Ambassador of Lebanon to Athens
Adverse circumstances, as well as common challenges facing the two countries in dealing with the refugee and migration issue, emerging in recent years as a consequence of the conflicts in the Eastern Mediterranean region, were the main focus of discussion held during the meeting of the members of the Bureau of the Greece-Lebanon Friendship Group with the Ambassador of Lebanon to Athens, Mr Ghady G. El Khoury.
Hellenic Parliament MPs-members of the Frienship Group Bureau, Vassilios Oikonomou, Georgios Psychogios and Georgios Rountas, confirmed the relations of close friendship between the two countries, underlining Greece's firm support to the Lebanese people, and also stressing the need for EU assistance to overcome the current crisis in Lebanon, mainly regarding the refugee issue.
For his part, the Ambassador of Lebanon referred to the two peoples’ common characteristics, but also the commercial cooperation developing since ancient times, and expressed aspiration towards further development of cooperation in a multitude of sectors - culture, tourism, business – via utilising the promising political tool established in 2019, the "tripartite cooperation scheme of Greece-Cyprus-Lebanon".
