3rd and 4th Vice-President of Parliament meet with delegation from China National Academy of Governance

 The 3rd Vice-President Athanasios Bouras and the 4th Vice-President Olga Gerovasili met today at the Hellenic Parliament with a six-member delegation of the National Academy of Governance of the Communist Party of China led by Mr Chuntao Xie. The 3rd Vice-President was accompanied by New Democracy MP Anastasios Chatzivasileiou.

In the two meetings, held in a very warm atmosphere, both Mr Bouras and Mrs Gerovasili underlined the constructive relations between the two countries over time, stressed the mutual appreciation in the history of the two peoples and their contribution to international affairs since antiquity and exchanged assurances on the expansion and deepening of cooperation on issues of bilateral and international interest, with emphasis on the economy, culture, tourism and the climate crisis.

In the same spirit, MP Anastasios Chatzivasileiou expressed his satisfaction that China respects Greece's sensitivity to the Cyprus issue. He also stressed the need to accelerate the establishing of a Consulate General in Chengdu and a direct air connection with Athens.

In both meetings, the participants noted the common approach on issues of development and citizens' well-being and addressing contemporary challenges and difficulties amongst the international community, such as climate change, the Ukrainian crisis and the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.  Both sides agreed that new circumstances produce new needs, but also new opportunities for cooperation and reaffirmed the intention to further strengthen the close relations between Greece and China which will be mutually beneficial for both countries.

Both Greek Vice-Presidents of Parliament assured the Chinese delegation that the Hellenic Parliament will continue to welcome and support Greek-Chinese parliamentary cooperation and the deepening of bilateral relations at all levels for the benefit of both peoples.
