Profession:

Professor of Cardiology. In Greece he was the director of the 1st Department of Cardiology at the Hippokration Hospital University of Athens (2002-2014) and Associate Professor and Honorary Professor of Cardiology at the same University. He was president of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology from 1997 to 1999, President at the Hellenic College of Cardiology (2007-2015), Vice President of National Council of Research and Technology (2005-2009) and President of the Hellenic Republic National Bioethics Commission (2014-2015). Last, he is the President of the Research Institute of Longevity and Prevention of Aging Diseases (2014-). Internationally, he is Professor of Medicine at the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Emory University , Atlanta, USA, (2007-), and Professor of Cardiology at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA (2014-). His research includes more than 1,600 complete published papers in authoritative international medical journals, while his papers have more than 65,000 citations in international literature. According to official international, published statistics, he is the scientist with the largest number of research papers worldwide in the field of cardiology for the last 20 years.

Studies:

He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens, specializing in Pathology and Cardiology. He became a Doctor of Medical Sciences at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and subsequently at the same school, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor of Cardiology.

He is a member of the Standing Committee of Social Affairs and the Special Permanent Committee of Research and Technology.

Political/Social Activities

He has more than 3,500 citations and has given over 260 lectures at International Scientific Conferences. He has published 6 books of international publishing houses and is the author of multiple chapters in 13 international journals. He is Section Editor (Clinical Cardiology) of the Journal of American College of Cardiology and has been honoured with two Awards for his research in Interventional Cardiology from the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In 2008, he was given the title of “The Master” at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, while in 2005 the title of “Elite Reviewer” from the scientific Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) in recognition of his contribution to its publication. In 2011, the American College of Cardiology awarded him the Simon Dack Prize, which is presented to the scientist with the most significant contribution to the scientific publications of the American College of Cardiology. For many years he has been publishing articles in the daily press to inform the public about cardiovascular health, had the column "Kardian Kathara" in a well-known newspaper, and now he holds a weekly column at a popular nationwide newspaper.
