The Directorate for Parliamentary Control is in charge of parliamentary control procedures, especially with regard to the preparation of debates beyond the order of the day , interpellations, current questions, general questions and petitions as well as Special Sessions held by the Parliament, such as debates on official government policy statements the Prime Minister makes upon assuming his duties, censure motions, motions to establish investigation committees, inter-party committees, debates initiated by MPs, discussions on the findings and conclusions of investigation committees or on inter-party committee reports etc.

The Directorate consists of three departments:
 
Α) Department for Petitions

The Department:
  • Receives, records and files away petitions in special volumes, per Ministry;
  • Acquaints the Parliament with the content of petitions;
  • Forwards petitions to the appropriate Ministers as well as respective minister responses to MPs who filed the petition in the first place;
  • Drafts tables listing petitions filled;
  • Attends parliamentary control sittings and updates its books and records.
Β) Department for Questions and for Applications to Submit Documents (AKE)

The Department:
  • Receives, records and files away questions in special volumes, per Ministry;
  • Forwards questions to the appropriate Ministers, they are addressed to;
  • Forwards minister responses to the interested parties who posed questions;
  • Drafts tables listing submitted questions;
  • Drafts and distributes the order of the day for upcoming questions to be discussed, questions that were not been answered or were answered belatedly after a deadline had expired;
  • Attends parliamentary control sittings and updates its books and records.
  • Keeps record of current questions in a special volume and forwards current questions to Ministers they are addressed to, in line with all relevant procedures and until the outcome is finalized.
  • Receives, records and files away official requests for documents,in special volumes, per Ministry;
  • Forwards formal requests, as submitted, to the appropriate Ministers;
  • Forwards to those MPs that have requested them, documents the Minister has provided;
  • Notifies in writing interested MP’s on original documents which are forwarded to Parliament through the Public Archives.
  • Drafts tables listing applications submitted.

C) Department for Interpellations

The Department:
  • Receives, records and files away interpellations in special volumes, per Ministry;
  • Forwards interpellations to the Ministers they are addressed to and gathers all necessary data for the upcoming parliamentary debate;
  • Drafts tables listing interpellations;
  • Drafts, prints and circulates an agenda on interpellations that are up for discussion;
  • Attends parliamentary control sittings and updates its books and records;
  • Forwards interpellations to the Speakers’ Conference for it to select and decide on the agenda within the meaning of par. 1 and 2 of article 135 and par. 5 and 6 of article 138;
  • Enters data regarding current interpellations in a special volume and forwards copies thereof to Presidents of Parliamentary Groups or to the representative of independent MPs by virtue of article 13 par. 2 of the Standing Orders of the Hellenic Parliament (Parliamentary section and chapters).
