The Secretary General is in charge of the Parliament’s Library, from an administrative point of view while the Library per se is under the scientific supervision of the President of the Scientific Council.
This is actually a general library which is open to the public though its main objective is to support the work of Parliament and its members. It provides support to MPs, their staff and associates, the Parliament’s Scientific Agency and the workforce of Hellenic Parliament. The Library is in close cooperation with all parliamentary agencies and departments, and other public sector state bodies as well as other libraries and scientific expert foundations both in Greece and abroad.
The Parliament’s Library has a collection of 650,000 books and volumes on all fields of science and, in line with Law 3149/2003, it is mandatory that it update itself and either purchase new Greek publications directly or get them in the form of donations. The Library has all Government Gazette back issues, parliamentary debate journals, verbatim reports and minutes of debates in the old House and the senate along with collections of manuscripts, archives (historical and photo) and the official Art Collection of the Hellenic Parliament. Get an electronic catalogue and lists of all such Library collections by logging on
http://catalog.parliament.gr, a website that also provides unimpeded access to all of the Library’s digital collections.
