Account of solidarity
The account of solidarity for the reduction of the public debt

Particularly encouraging is the response of all Greeks, in Greece and abroad to contribute in the nationwide effort, expressing their will to support their country, so that it comes out of the difficulties in which it has been placed, because of its budgetary deficit. Last February, the Speaker of the Greek Parliament Mr Philippos Petsalnikos publicly proposed the creation of a “Fund” to support Greece in dealing with the public debt.
The Greek President Mr Karolos Papoulias accepted the proposal of the President of the Greek Parliament Mr Philippos Petsalnikos. Mr Papoulias is a personality of known prestige and widest acceptance, who expresses the entire Hellenism.
By a decree of the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Mr Georgios Provopoulos, who responded to the proposal of the President of Parliament, an “Account of Solidarity for the reduction of public debt” was created with the code number
26132462, in which the citizens of the country as well as all Greeks living abroad, can voluntarily deposit any amount they wish. Practically this means that whoever wishes to contribute with any amount, is able, to deposit his contribution either in any branch of the Bank of Greece or in any other branch of any public or private banking institution.
Regarding the contribution via branches of Greek banks abroad or even the branches of foreign banking institutions abroad, the code is:
[
IBAN] GR 04 010 0024 0000000026132462 and
SWIFT/BICBNGRGRAA.
As Mr Petsalnikos repeatedly declared,
in order to absolutely ensure the transparency and the exploitation of every voluntary contribution in reducing the public debt of our country, an Administrative Council was not recommended for this account neither do administrators interfere.
By a decree of the Governor of Bank of Greece to all credit institutions of the country, it was pointed out that they should not burden donators with commissions to transfers in the above mentioned account.
As the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Georgios Provopoulos, proposed in his letter to the President of Parliament, the Bank of Greece will inform to the National Delegation, in regular intervals of the amount concentrated sums and its transfer in the code that exclusively concerns the reduction of public debt.
Mr Provopoulos characteristically stresses in his letter to Mr Petsalnikos, by which he notifies him of the creation of the Account: “I want to believe that your excellent idea, in combination with the guarantee of transparency and integrity in its implementation, will be fruitful”.
